Ten Spot - Leslieville Oppening

Everyone loves pampering! And after a long semester of hardcore studying and living like a hermit, I decided it was time to pamper myself to a pedicure. JUST as I was looking at my neglected feet, I received an email form the Ten Spot –a beauty and grooming boutique that’s “all about funky and fun experience” –announcing the opening of their new location in Leslieville!! I was thrilled!! I immediately called a dear friend and RSVP’d for the event...and it was just an amazing experience. The place is incredible and the staff is so nice and cordial.

They just make you feel at home. Best of all, to my surprise –although the invitation did state that guys were welcomed as they also offer male grooming- there were tons of cute guys!!! Beer, free manicures, cheese and crackers, wine, and cute guys! What else can you ask for?!?!?! So besides from the good time we had, we also got to book appointments for pedicures at 50% off!! What a deal!!!

So...If you have not been to the Ten Spot, grab your girlfriends and book one –or more –of their fabulous services including manicures, pedicures, facials and waxing. You can also bring your boyfriend and enjoy together a beautifying routine.

My personal favourite is their pedicure service:

“We start off this peppy ‘anti-spa’ pedicure with a hot soak in bubbly water before we give you your perfect nail shape and buff those nails smooth! Then we move on to full cuticle work and extreme buffing of the bottoms of the feet (you’ll feel like your feet are 5 pounds lighter and smooth as baby's butt!) Next up; enjoy an exfoliating foot scrub and invigorating massage with our all natural products. Need a toe wax - no worries, we've got you covered (and it's complementary!). End off this perfect pedi with impeccable polish or choose to have your nails buffed to a high gloss shine! Um, amazing”

If you are like me, you know that after a summer of wearing sandals and high heels, the end product is cracked heels, sore feet and rough nails. And so this is the perfect pedicure to bring your feet back to life!!

Talking Politics

As citizens we have the right and obligation to vote. It is a right because of the democratic values of Canadian society, but also, it is an obligation as chosen candidates make important decisions that have huge impacts in our lives. I must say however, that I have not exercised my right/obligation but once in my life... and let’s just say, ever since I turned 18, I have had many opportunities to do so... In any case, I did vote in the last national elections and although my candidate did not win, I feel proud of doing what every other citizen should do.

Most people know who the Prime Minister and the Major are, but do we know who our local MPP is? I did not, but I thought it would be fun to find out. Although I was hoping my MPP would be a hot young successful guy, to my delightful surprise, I found out that my MPP is a woman!! What kind of close (or perverted) mind do I have? Yes! She is a woman!!! How refreshing!! Her name is Cheri DiNovo, and if you live in the High Park area, she is your MPP too. But my question is: what exactly does an MPP do?

Well, if you go to the Ontario’s Legislative Assembly website you will fin d out that an MPP

“As a representative of his or her riding, an MPP meets with constituents, deals with the provincial government to solve problems, helps constituents find services that are available to assist them in different ways, and attends and supports community events. An MPP may be able to help with and present a petition to the Legislature concerning a specific problem or issue in the riding. An MPP has one or more locally-staffed offices to help constituents”...

Ha! Who knew!?!?!? Well, I invite you to check your local MPP and see what he or she has done for you and the rest of the constituents... oh, and don’t forget to let me know if you find a cute one!!

Sushi Inn

The green tea, the spicy tuna, the avocado roll, the green tea ice cream, the Bento Silver Box, the chicken teriyaki....oh, so many reasons why I love Sushi Inn. I do not recall the first time I was there, but it was certainly love at first bite. Sushi Inn is the perfect place to go have lunch while shopping in the Yorkville area or for dinner when having a movie night at Varsity or Cumberland, with your girls or bf.

Despite that Toronto is full of Japanese restaurants, in my opinion, there is nothing like Sushi Inn. I think it is a combination of good atmosphere and service (the place is always packed, and you may even find some local celebrities there!), with superfluous fresh ingredients. When it comes to sushi, freshness is imperative. I cannot tell you how many times I have gone to other sushi restaurants and gotten so sick I was not able to eat sushi for months!!! Whenever you get a chance, I greatly recommend you paying Sushi Inn a visit, you will not regret it! If you do, please let me know how it went! Or even better, if you go and you find that your favourite sushi restaurant is better than mine, please let me know! I love being challenged!

Now Magazine - Toronto's Hip Bible

Like for many other Torontonians, Now Toronto magazine is my bible when it comes to local news and events. My favourite sections are “Store of the Week”, “Daily Events”, “Special Guides” and “My style”. I have been reading the magazine for years, and when I have no plans, or no clue about what to do for the weekend, I consult the magazine’s “Daily Events” section, where I am sure to find something amazing to do, and what is best, is that a lot of those events are FREE!! Looking for something to do this Monday I found the following entry:
Monday December 7th, 2009
Hollywood And Society: Through The Cinematic Lens.
Shlomo Schwartzberg lectures on how Hollywood looks at war.
7:30 pm. $10.
Miles Nadal JCC, 750 Spadina.
416-924-621 ext 606,
mnjcc.org.
Interesting? Check! Cheap? Check! Educational? Check! Accessible? Check!!! Let’s go???
